In the autumn of our 2025 season, we were surprised upon discovering that a Beluga whale had made its way into Frafjord and decided to hang out for a couple of days. It was one of our last formal guided paddle tours for the season, and our lucky guests were able to paddle out there and be in its presence.

Artic species

Beluga whales are known for their white color and range of vocal sounds, earning them the title, "canary of the sea." They are very social animals, forming groups to hunt, migrate, and interact with each other.

Beluga whales are found globally throughout the Arctic and sub-Arctic waters. In the United States, they are found in waters off Alaska. Their habitat occurs along coastal bays and inlets. A thick layer of fat, called blubber, and thick skin helps them live in the freezing waters of the arctic and subarctic environment. Belugas lack a dorsal fin, so that they can easily swim through ice covered waters.
